Riverside brings your audiences a mix of classic
rock n’ roll, blues from the masters such as Willie Dixon, Robert
Johnson, John Lee Hooker (to name a few) and sky high energy music
that entertains and radiates excitement. All four players, sing and
each is a master of their instrument. Much of their playing is interpretational,
and they add instrumental and vocal arrangements to the covers they
do to make them their own.
Not your typical “boot,
scoot and boogie blues band”, but a high energy unit that presents
an exciting stage show as well as a diverse array of music.
The Band:
| E.V.
Rodriguez (vocals/bass) |
E.V.
Rodriguez began his
musical education as a classically trained bassist. Soon evolving
to 60’s and seventies rock and blues, he has been deeply influenced
by artists such as Muddy Waters, Willie
Dixon, Lighting Hopkins, John
Entwhistle of The Who and Jack Bruce of
Cream. His bass style is different and exciting. Playing his 4 and
5 string fretless electric, E.V. executes complex and rhythmic bass
lines and sings lead and background vocals on much of the group’s
repertoire. |

| Eddie King (vocals/guitar)
|
Eddie King started his
musical training playing violin and singing in school choir groups.
He was awarded a scholarship to Columbia University as a vocalist.
He soon left the violin when he found his passion for the electric
guitar. He later did studio for ABC / Dunhill Records. Eddie paid
his dues playing and singing with a number of groups in New York
and New Jersey’s rock and blues clubs. Eddie lists Johnny
Winter, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton,
Keith Richards and Jimi Hendrix,
among his favorite artists and influences. Eddie’s expressive
leads combined with his technical prowess is the thread that binds
the band’s sound together. Eddie also sings lead and background
vocals along with the other three members of the group. |

| E.
J. Lazar (vocals/harmonica/keyboard)
|
E.
J. Lazar, then
a student at Northwestern University, went out drinking with
some of his fraternity brothers one night. They went to a small
club on the north side of Chicago, called Magoo’s Place,
and saw the “Mike Bloomfield Blues Band”.
Charlie Musselwhite was playing harmonica through
a mike, Bloomfield was the best guitarist E.
J. had ever heard, and, that night, the blues bug bit E. J.
real hard. He convinced his high school friend to buy a bass
guitar, amp and microphone. E. J. bought a few harps, an amp
and microphone. They started listening to blues records, jamming
and looking for musicians to complete the band.
A few months, and many rehearsals later, they were on stage
playing the blues in the very club, Magoo’s Place, where
it all began. Earning a living and playing music was a dream
come true. The music scene in Chicago was extremely fertile
in those days. The band worked the same clubs as the
Butterfield Blues Band, Muddy Waters,
Howlin’ Wolf and Junior Wells. Soul music
became popular, and the band started opening for major acts
like Wilson Pickett, Jerry Lee Lewis,
Jay And The Americans and The Ides
Of March.
Now, after decades of musical inactivity, and missing his music,
E. J. is back, performing with “Riverside”
here in Southwest Florida. I guess the old saying is true. “Everything
old is new again”.

| Chris
Cole (drums)
|
Chris
Cole’s solid
drumming style goes all the way back to his childhood. His father
was the high school band director, so nothing less than immaculate
tempo and timing would do. Most of us begin our music appreciation
with parental influence, and Chris is no exception. The big band
era with artists like Benny Goodman, Duke
Ellington and Buddy Rich were early
influences on Chris’ drumming style. Then, as he got older,
rock bands like Rush, Black Sabbath
and Kansas got his musical attention. Van
der Graaf Generator and Brand X were
jazz fusion bands that Chris discovered with the help of his brother.
Now, having mellowed a bit, he enjoys listening to The
Eagles, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
and Duke Tomato. |
